Balance – Use it or Lose it

Each Body Shape Pilates session begins with a focus on advanced balance and stability training. These elements are fundamental to our well-being, health, injury prevention, posture improvement, body control, and core strength.

It’s important to remember that both balance and stability are learned skills—neither are intuitive. If you observe a toddler learning to stand, you’ll notice that balance, not leg or core strength, is the main challenge.

Balance is a key component of every movement we perform, but it tends to decline with age, largely due to our modern lifestyles. As adults, we spend more time sitting and much less time practicing activities like cartwheels!

Balance training at Body Shape Pilates targets the stabilizer muscles (shoulders, abdomen, obliques, diaphragm, hips, knees, and ankles), enhancing joint stability and internal focus. Strong stabilizer muscles are essential for maintaining overall musculoskeletal health.

Time and balance are two of the most difficult things to control, yet they are both within our control. Training with Body Shape Pilates will help you improve both!

What does Fusion really mean?

Quite literally the process or result of joining two or more things together to form something new.

If you are here, you’re actively looking for a workout to suit your daily routine, Pilates interests you, but what can you really expect if you join my fusion classes? Perhaps the Fusion description is a bit vague?

I spend a lot of my week researching movements for my classes which are freshly written with each new week! I find moves that are challenging, building core strength and improving muscle tone. I practice them to make sure they are the right fit for our goals, I try different numbers of reps to see how hard we can push ourselves. Ensure that the moves suit the flow of the class and are varied to work all of our muscles.

My inspiration is drawn from many exercise techniques. Of course classic mat Pilates is a BIG inspiration, I also draw ideas from Yoga, Barre, ballet and anything else that catches my eye and can be enhanced to produce the most effective workout.

A little bit about me

Hi Everyone. I just wanted to share a little bit about my life outside of Pilates with you all. I’m British born where I grew up and lived until 2017 when I relocated with my husband and 4 children to Luxembourg, we enjoyed living in that beautiful country for 4 years. We moved the USA 3 years ago and love living in Bethesda and being able to enjoy trips to the Capital City! I love being a Mum to my kids and to our hugely adored puppy. Together we all enjoy finding new local hikes, taking trips to the beach and sampling the many restaurants this area has to offer.

My Pilates Journey

We moved from our home in England a few days before Christmas in 2017. Arriving in Luxembourg at a time when the days were short and people were choosing to stay at home and keep warm. With only a moderate grasp of French (and no Luxembourgish at all!) I began to feel quite isolated and lonely. In the village of Bertrange, where we lived, there was a dance studio who also taught Pilates. One day I plucked up the courage to enter. They welcomed me with open arms, I fell in love with Pilates in that studio and ever since! It was a very diversely aged group with varying abilities, but it never mattered in that studio. I left Luxembourg so inspired by my instructor and group and I wanted to share my experience with others. I trained with Equinox and passed the Classic Mat Pilates exam. As a qualified instructor I have crafted a Fusion Mat Pilates class that engages your mind and body, challenges you physically but is also fun!
